Universiade Curling competitions are very popular with spectators. The Swiss team has been at the forefront of competitions many times, but has yet to win a gold medal.

Except for 2005, Curling has been part of the Winter Universiade programme since 2003. The standard of competition is very high, with many of the leading players at World, European and World Cup championships taking part.

Switzerland is a Curling country. The Swiss national team has won olympic, world and european titles in the past. Swiss teams at Universiade events have also been strong: two bronzes for the womens‘ team (2013 & 2015) and two silvers for the mens‘ team (2003 & 2011), but the top of the Universiade podium has not yet been reached. Pascal Hess, the Head of Swiss Curling, would like to change this. He is from the city of Zug, and was Skip in the silver medal winning team in 2011.
